Lowland gorilla tracking experience in DRC is done in Kahuzi Biega National park. There are only two of the nine habituated gorilla families in Kahuzi Biega National park that are open to tourists. The lowland gorilla tracking and the mountain gorilla tracking experiences are quite the same but a difference in terrain renders the disparity. Similar gorilla rules and safety precautions are undertaken.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali:
On arrival at Kigali International Airport you will be welcomed by our representative and transferred to your preferred hotel for the overnight. BB
Day 2: Transfer to Bukavu
After breakfast drive to the South Western side of Rwanda, on the shores of Lake Kivu. Lunch en-route in a restaurant. Stop overs can be made in Butare and other panoramic sites. Arrive in the late afternoon to the border between Rwanda and Congo near Cyangugu and proceed to Bukavu in DRC. Dinner and overnight at your preferred Lodge. Full Board accommodation
Day 3: Gorilla Tracking in Kahuzi Biega National Park
After early breakfast, drive to Kahuzi Biega National Park for the Eastern Low land gorillas trekking. This park, about 600sq km, is where the first gorilla tourism was started in the 70th. At the moment there are two habituated families of gorillas and the trekking is a real experience of a Congolese jungle. Bring with you the packed lunch from the hotel as well as be prepared with trekking gear. In the afternoon drive back to your lodge in Bukavu. There are optional activities that can be done later in the afternoon like a visit to the tea plantation-Very close to Kahuzi-Biega Park, you will have the chance to visit a high altitude tea plantation (1,950 – 2,000 m), there are experts available who can explain the entire process, from “leaf to cup”, you can also relax at the beaches on the shores of lake Kivu or enjoy the sunset while kayaking on lake Kivu. Dinner and overnight at your preferred lodge.
Day 4: Transfer back to Kigali
After breakfast you will drive back to Kigali. Arrive in Kigali for and either transfer to Kigali International Airport or to your next facility of residence as you advise. This will mark the end of your lowland gorilla trekking experience in Kahuzi Biega National park
